Mini Lecture: Lyricism and Line—Melodic Interpretation through the use of Phrasing, Tone Colors, and Vibrato.

The Orchestral Musician: The Audition is Just the Beginning! An inside look at the orchestral musician’s life.
The March 12th presentation will begin with an open masterclass with Jeanne Baxtresser and the prestigious Flute Faculty of McGill University’s Schulich School of Music: Carolyn Christie, Timothy Hutchins, and Cindy Shuter. They will coach flutists of McGill University in the famous solos and duos from the orchestral repertoire.
In addition, Ms. Baxtresser will moderate a panel discussion with the Flute Faculty about their work and lives in music. Topics will include thoughts about audition preparation, practice methods that work, teaching philosophies, and how to create a balanced life when you live the life of a dedicated professional performing musician.
Questions from the audience will be welcomed at the end.
Atlanta Flute Club’s Spring Event with Jeanne Baxtresser

Ms. Baxtresser will be the featured guest at the Atlanta Flute Club’s 2010 Spring Event. The exciting day’s events will be packed with masterclasses and lectures, including:
- Lecture on “Audition Preparation & Learning to Enjoy Performing”
- Orchestral Excerpt Masterclass
- Lecture/demonstration on “Tone and Vibrato—Lyricism and Line”—Ms. Baxtresser will present specific exercises and talk about phrasing using a variety of tone colors in lyrical playing.
- Masterclass on standard solo repertoire
- Lectures on “How to Practice Effectively” and “Learning to Become a Great Student”
Masterclass at Western Connecticut State University

Ms. Baxtresser will be visiting Western Connecticut State University to present a Masterclass on Sunday, May 2, 2010.
“Tone, Vibrato, and Melody” This class will be dedicated to exploring exercises for tonal development and flexibility as well as using tone colors and vibrato to enhance the beauty of a simple melody. The repertoire will be taken from prominent solos from the orchestral literature and well as flute and piano masterpieces.
Auditors are welcome to attend the class.
